Death of One of My Favorite People

I am so upset right now....one of my favorite people has died.

Walter Cronkite.

For those of you who don't know him, Walter Cronkite was a news anchor at CBS for nearly 20 years, from 1962 to 1981. Among other events, he covered the Cuban missile crisis; the assassinations of John Kennedy, Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.; the Vietnam War; the Apollo moon landing; and Watergate. He was also, in my opinion, the greatest journalist of all time.

He actually trained himself to speak slower than the average person, so that we might be able to hear and understand everything that he was saying. He was an amazing figure of authority in his position, giving us the facts without sprinkling them with anything. During the coverage of the moon landing, he stayed on the air for 27 hours, out of the 30 hour news coverage.
He even made time for his 65 year marriage.

He was truly amazing, and I am very sad about his loss. But, as Cronkite once said, "That's the way it is."

Harry Potter Abounds!

Annoyance abounds!

Today, July 14, is an almost historic day. Why? Because tonight at midnight, the sixth Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, premieres!

Unfortunately, I will not be going to any midnight premieres. Why? Because my mother demanded that I help her paint the house early tomorrow if we went. Since I have no intention of helping (I'm inclined to leave the house as it is), I agreed to wait to see HP6.

But now, she apparently STILL expects me to help her! That wasn't part of the deal!
Grrr....I love my mother, but she vexes me so!

On another note...I finished rereading all 7 HP books yesterday (something I do before each new movie). My favorite book is still #4, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I forgot how progessively dark each book gets. It goes from "Yay, let's go get Voldemort!" to "Holy shit, people are dead!" I lost count of how many characters got killed in the final book. I know at least 11 characters were killed, but I don't remember the exact amount.

To all HP fans, you're still awesome!

New Task...Need Support

Hey there, friends.

I have decided to do something that might not be wise to my mental health, but I feel will be good in the long run.

All these married people I've been finding on Craigslist, looking to have affairs? I've decided to start emailing them.

I started today. Already, I'm feeling drained.

Two people, both women, responded. They told me (in variations) to fuck off.

Well, guess what? I will not.
This is my war. I will fight it.

But I need strength from anyone reading this blog.
Like I said, negativity is draining.

Men and women alike, lend me your kind words and thoughts. I could really use them.

Back from Florida

Well, I have returned from Florida, Disney World (of course) and the American Idol auditions!

Here's what happened at the auditions, for your entertainment.

It's actually not quite what you see on tv. (Surprise surprise.) The process takes place over 3 days. The first two days are devoted to registration. I went on day 1. I got there at about 6 am, to find a lot of people had been there for a couple of hours. And the doors weren't supposed to open until 8 am. No biggie. I had snacks and a book. A couple times, we filmed segments welcoming people 'back to American Idol' but other than that, nothing very exciting happened. Once I did get inside, I had to go to one of several tables containing Idol people. I showed them my ID, then was given a ticket (for my seat in the arena where we were) and a wristband to prove I hadn't stolen my ticket, along with two pieces of paper with the rules and what to expect/do on audition day.

Among those things was learn the crowd song, and not to get my wristband wet.

Since I had registered day 1, I didn't have to come back until audition day, day 3. This time, I *had* to be there by 5 am (so said my papers). I did get there, and got to be further up the line this time. Eventually, around 7 am, we were moved to the front of the arena. At this point, the press started doing interviews with people in line and taking pictures. That was kinda cool - I got to sing "Sweet Home Alabama" into one of the cameras with some people. Then we were herded inside. The arena was MASSIVE - and nearly every seat was full. They then brought out the official Idol cameras, and had us filming more "welcome/welcome back" segments. Then we sang some songs ("Heartbreaker" and "When You Wish Upon a Star") and cheered. Then people actually got to sing for the producers around 9 am. I was far back in the lineup, so I didn't get to sing until around 1:30 pm ish. My row got called down to the arena floor, then we were lined up in groups of four. We were then sent before 2 producers. When they pointed at a person, person X had 30 seconds to sing. Then, after all 4 had sung, they discussed for a moment, then determined whether or not anyone would go on. My entire group got the following comment:
"Your auditions were good, but you're not right for American Idol."

With that, we were dismissed. I went out, got my ride, and headed away.

And there you have it.

This is a news photo taken from the roof of the arena. I'm on the left side of the picture, under the last flag pole. (In the bigger picture, I found my aqua skirt.)

1 Week Til Takeoff

What is this, then?

Well, you know that American Idol holds auditions in the summer, correct? They only show them in the winter.

Well, a week from today, I will be boarding an airplane to go to the location of one of the auditions: Orlando, FL.

Why Orlando? Well, my godparents live there for starters. I get a free place to stay, and my godfather's giving me a ride back home.
I also get to spend a day or two in Disney World. For free.

You see, my godparents are retired Disney employees. They can get 3 free passes to Disney per day. I'm probably only going to get to go to one, but that's fine. My favorite park is MGM Studios (oh, fine - DISNEY HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS), so I'll probably pick that one. It has all of the stunt shows, as well as my favorite Disney ride, The Tower of Terror (aka. My wedding chapel).

Anyway, back to Idol.
Registration will be July 7 & 8, auditions will be on July 9.
I have 3 songs prepared. My main one is going to be "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac. My backup songs are "Tell Him" by Vonda Shepard and "Time After Time" by Cyndi Lauper.

Keep your eyes peeled - and if I make it, be sure to vote for me!

My Personal Blog - Post 1

Well, I figured that I had so many ranting blogs, I should put up a blog that's actually, you know, about me and my life.

Let's start with the basics then, shall I?

Name you can call me when Queen_of_the_Serpents gets too long to type: Serpent Queen. Or Mamba; how's that?

Birthday: March 29. That makes me a proud Aries.
-Am I a legal adult?: Yes.

Where I live: I have two homes. One is in the Appalachian Mountains, one is at college in a valley. Both are in the United States.

Skin Color: It's kind of a peachy-pink color. I have a few random freckles on my arms and legs. My shoulders are speckled.

Hair color: Right now, it's blonde with a pink tint. It'll probably change before I go back to school.

What do I do for a living: I eat, sleep, walk around. I'm also a student. I did work in my school's IT department, but I've been made a Resident Assistant (RA) for the 2009-2010 school year.

I keep talking about college; I'll tell you more: I'm going to be a sophmore this year. I haven't declared a major yet, but it will be a Film & International Studies double major.

Any pets: Three dogs, ranging in age from 14 to 4. Two are mixes, one is a collie.
Do I just not like cats?: I love cats. But I have 3 big dogs. They'd probably think it was a chew toy.

Anything else?: I am not interested in men at ALL. I don't want cock pictures, I don't want cyber sex, I don't want a heterosexual relationship or anything resembling one.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Let the blog begin!
